- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 5 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and the seeds from the split vanilla bean.
- Alternately add the dry mixture and whole milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry mixture.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then turn onto wire racks to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat together the softened butter and powdered sugar, adding heavy cream to desired consistency.
- Frost the top of two layers, stack them, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Decorate as desired with sprinkles, fresh fruits, or edible flowers.
Notes
For better results, use room temperature ingredients and avoid overmixing.
