Description

Delicious homemade soft pretzels with a chewy texture and salty finish, perfect for any gathering.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
  • Butter for brushing (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  6. Boil water and baking soda in a large pot.
  7. Divide the dough into 8 pieces and shape them into pretzels.
  8. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds and then place on a lined baking sheet.
  9. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Brush with melted butter if desired and enjoy!

Notes

Serve warm with mustard, cheese sauce, or cinnamon dip. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
