Ingredients

- 2 cups warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
- Butter for brushing (optional)
Instructions
- Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
- Boil water and baking soda in a large pot.
- Divide the dough into 8 pieces and shape them into pretzels.
- Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds and then place on a lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle with coarse sea salt and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter if desired and enjoy!
Notes
Serve warm with mustard, cheese sauce, or cinnamon dip. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
