1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 5–6 large lemons)
4 cups cold water (for diluting)
Ice cubes for serving
Fresh mint leaves and lemon slices for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Create the Simple Syrup. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. Place over medium heat and stir occasionally until the sugar has completely dissolved. Remove from the heat and let it cool slightly. This ensures your lemonade isn’t grainy.
Step 2: Puree the Strawberries. Place the hulled strawberries into a blender. Add a splash of water if needed and blend until the mixture is completely smooth. If you prefer a very clear lemonade, you can pour this puree through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the seeds, but many enjoy the rustic texture of the pulp.
Step 3: Juice the Lemons. Squeeze your lemons until you have exactly one cup of juice. Using fresh lemons is essential for that bright, citrusy punch that bottled juice simply cannot replicate.
Step 4: Mix the Ingredients. In a large pitcher, combine the strawberry puree, the freshly squeezed lemon juice, and the cooled simple syrup. Stir well to combine the flavors.
Step 5: Dilute and Chill. Pour in the remaining 4 cups of cold water and stir vigorously. Taste the lemonade; if it is too sweet, add a bit more lemon juice. If it is too tart, add a touch more sugar or syrup. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
