Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 2 cups fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced into rounds
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen cranberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Combine the Liquid Base In a large pot or Dutch oven, pour in the cranberry juice and the fresh orange juice. Stir in your choice of sweetener, such as honey or maple syrup, until it is mostly dissolved into the liquid.
  2. Step 2: Add Aromatics and Spices Drop the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and star anise into the pot. Add half of the orange slices directly into the liquid to allow the oils from the peel to infuse into the drink as it heats.
  3. Step 3: Simmer to Infuse Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a very gentle simmer. Once simmering, reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let the flavors meld together for about 15 to 20 minutes. Avoid letting it reach a rolling boil, as this can make the juice taste slightly bitter.
  4. Step 4: Strain and Garnish Using a fine-mesh strainer or a slotted spoon, remove the whole spices and the boiled orange slices. Ladle the hot liquid into mugs and garnish each serving with a fresh orange slice and a few cranberries.
