1 sheet of frozen puff pastry, thawed according to package directions
1/4 cup whole berry cranberry sauce
1 large egg, lightly beaten (for egg wash)
2 sliced black olives or edible candy eyes
Crackers, apple slices, or baguette for serving
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat and Prepare. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly flour a clean work surface and gently roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases.
Step 2: Slice the Pastry Strips. Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut the puff pastry into long strips about 1/2-inch wide. These will serve as the “bandages” for your mummy. Keep the strips cool so they are easier to handle.
Step 3: Add the Cranberry Layer. Place the Brie wheel in the center of the parchment-lined baking sheet. Spread the cranberry sauce evenly over the top of the Brie, leaving about half an inch of space from the edges to prevent too much leakage.
Step 4: Wrap the Mummy. Take the pastry strips and wrap them across the Brie wheel in a crisscross pattern. Leave a small horizontal opening near the top third of the cheese where the “eyes” will eventually go. Tuck the ends of the strips underneath the Brie to secure them.
Step 5: Apply Egg Wash. Brush the puff pastry strips with the beaten egg wash. This ensures that the mummy turns a beautiful, shiny golden brown while baking in the oven.
Step 6: Bake Until Golden. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 20 to 22 minutes. The pastry should be puffed and golden, and the cheese should be soft and melty. Remove from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before adding the olive slices or candy eyes in the opening you left earlier.
