Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (16 oz) refried beans
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning
  • 1 cup thick and chunky salsa
  • 2 cups guacamole (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 3 large flour tortillas
  • Edible food marker or a small tube of black bean paste
  • Fresh cilantro for “weeds”

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Creamy Base: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and taco seasoning. Stir until the mixture is smooth and the spices are evenly distributed. This will serve as one of the most flavorful layers of your dip.
  2. Step 2: Layer the Dip: In a 9×13 inch glass baking dish, spread the refried beans in an even layer at the bottom. Next, spread the cream cheese mixture over the beans. Follow this with a layer of salsa, and then top with the shredded Mexican cheese. Finally, spread the guacamole over the top to look like green grass.
  3. Step 3: Create the Tombstones: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Use kitchen shears to cut tombstone shapes out of the flour tortillas. Place them on a baking sheet and bake for about 5 minutes, or until they are crisp and slightly golden. Once cooled, use an edible marker or a bit of bean paste to write “RIP” or draw small crosses on them.
  4. Step 4: Landscape the Graveyard: Sprinkle the sliced black olives and chopped green onions over the guacamole “grass” to look like dirt and foliage. You can also tuck small sprigs of cilantro into the dip to look like overgrown weeds around the graves.
  5. Step 5: The Final Assembly: Just before serving, push the tortilla tombstones into the dip so they stand upright. Space them out across the dish to create a full cemetery effect. Serve immediately with your favorite tortilla chips.
