Description

Delightful star-shaped cookies that blend rich cocoa with a touch of rum, perfect for holidays and gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup rum or rum flavoring
  • Icing for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until smooth.
  2. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  4. Stir in the rum or rum flavoring to infuse the dough.
  5. Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut out shapes using a star-shaped cookie cutter and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack before decorating with icing.

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week, or freeze for up to three months.
