- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup rum or rum flavoring
- Icing for decoration (optional)
Instructions
- Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Stir in the rum or rum flavoring to infuse the dough.
- Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut out shapes using a star-shaped cookie cutter and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
- Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack before decorating with icing.
Notes
Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week, or freeze for up to three months.
