Description

A delectable twist combining the rich flavors of a cheesesteak with the comforting texture of meatloaf, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the diced green bell pepper and onion for about 5 minutes until they’re nicely softened. Once done, set them aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until everything is well combined – but be careful not to overwork the meat!
  4. Pack half of the meat mixture tightly into a loaf pan. Layer it with 4 slices of provolone cheese followed by the sautéed vegetables. Top it off with the remaining meat mixture, pressing it down gently to ensure it’s packed well.
  5. Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes until the meatloaf is fully cooked. In the last 5 minutes of baking, add the remaining cheese slices on top to melt beautifully.
  6. Once baked, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for about 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Slice and serve with creamy mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a crisp salad. Consider adding gravy or serving on a bun for a sandwich.
