Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup water or unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop (approx. 30g) vanilla or chocolate whey/plant-based protein powder
  • 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey for extra sweetness

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the rolled oats, liquid of choice (water or milk), and a pinch of salt. The salt helps to bring out the natural nuttiness of the oats.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 5 to 7 minutes. Stir occasionally until the oats have absorbed most of the liquid and reached your desired thickness.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat. This is a crucial step! Stir in the protein powder and cinnamon immediately. Removing from heat prevents the protein from “cooking” and becoming rubbery or grainy. If the mixture becomes too thick, add a small splash of extra milk.
  4. Fold in the tablespoon of peanut butter. You can stir it in completely for a uniform flavor or leave a few swirls for a beautiful presentation. Transfer the oatmeal to a bowl.
