1.5 lbs Flank steak or Top Sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
4 cups Broccoli florets, cut into bite-sized pieces
1/2 cup Low-sodium soy sauce or tamari
1/2 cup Beef broth
2 tablespoons Honey or brown sugar
1 tablespoon Cornstarch
3 cloves Garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Fresh ginger, grated
2 tablespoons Sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon Red pepper flakes (optional)
Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish
Instructions
Whisk the Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, beef broth, honey, cornstarch, minced garlic, and grated ginger until the cornstarch is fully dissolved. Set this mixture aside for later use.
Sear the Beef: Heat one tablespoon of sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes until browned on all sides. Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside on a plate.
Steam the Broccoli: Add the remaining tablespoon of sesame oil to the same skillet. Toss in the broccoli florets and add two tablespoons of water. Cover with a lid for 2-3 minutes to steam the broccoli until it becomes bright green and slightly tender.
Combine and Thicken: Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the broccoli. Bring the liquid to a simmer. Once the sauce begins to thicken and turn glossy, add the cooked beef back into the pan. Toss everything together to ensure the beef and broccoli are well-coated.
Garnish and Serve: Once the sauce is thick and the meat is heated through, remove the skillet from the heat. Sprinkle with sesame seeds, green onions, and red pepper flakes if you prefer a bit of heat.
