Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups fresh baby spinach or kale
  • 2 ½ cups frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 2 ½ large bananas, sliced
  • 1 ¼ cups Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla)
  • 5 tablespoons chia seeds or flax seeds
  • 5 tablespoons almond butter or peanut butter (optional)
  • Liquid for blending (added at the time of serving: water, almond milk, or coconut water)

Instructions

  1. Wash the fresh greens thoroughly and pat them dry. Slice the bananas into rounds to make blending easier later on. If you are using any other fresh fruit, make sure it is cleaned and cut into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Set out five freezer-safe silicone bags or quart-sized plastic freezer bags. In each bag, place 1 cup of greens at the bottom. Adding the greens first helps prevent them from sticking to the top of the bag.
  3. Divide the sliced bananas, mixed berries, Greek yogurt, and seeds equally among the five bags. If you are using nut butter, add a tablespoon to each bag now. Try to squeeze out as much air as possible before sealing the bags tightly.
  4. Use a permanent marker to label each bag with the date and the type of smoothie. Place the bags in the freezer in a single layer until they are frozen solid. Once frozen, you can stack them to save space.
  5. When you are ready to eat, empty the contents of one bag into your blender. Add 1 to 1 ½ cups of your liquid of choice. Blend on high until the consistency is smooth and creamy. Pour into a glass and enjoy your instant healthy meal.
