3 large ripe tomatoes (Heirloom or Roma work best)
8 to 10 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese (preferably buffalo mozzarella or “fior di latte”)
1 bunch fresh basil leaves
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (high quality)
2 tablespoons balsamic glaze (optional but recommended)
Flaky sea salt to taste
Freshly cracked black pepper to taste
Instructions
Wash the tomatoes and basil leaves thoroughly. Pat them dry with a paper towel. Slice the tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Do the same with the fresh mozzarella cheese, aiming for slices of similar thickness to the tomatoes.
On a large serving platter or individual plates, begin layering the ingredients. Place a tomato slice down, then top it with a mozzarella slice and a large basil leaf. Repeat this overlapping pattern until all the ingredients are used, creating a beautiful circular or linear arrangement.
Just before serving, drizzle the extra virgin olive oil evenly over the arranged slices. If you are using balsamic glaze, drizzle it in a decorative zigzag pattern over the top. Sprinkle generously with flaky sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper to enhance the natural flavors.
