Ingredients required by the mix (usually eggs, oil, and water)
1 cup vanilla frosting
Neon green food coloring
12–15 pretzel sticks (to serve as stirring spoons)
Candy eyeballs
Assorted Halloween sprinkles (bones, stars, or green pearls)
Black paper cupcake liners
Instructions
Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on your brownie mix box (usually 350°F). Line a standard muffin tin with black cupcake liners. This is important as the black liners create the “cauldron” look.
In a large bowl, combine the brownie mix with the required eggs, oil, and water. Stir until the batter is smooth and well combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the brownies fudgy and moist.
Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with the brownie batter. Bake according to the package instructions for “brownie bites” or “cupcake brownies,” typically 20 to 25 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with just a few moist crumbs.
Remove the muffin tin from the oven and let the brownies cool completely. If the brownies are still warm when you decorate them, the frosting will melt and ruin the “bubbling” effect.
While the brownies cool, place your vanilla frosting in a small bowl. Add a few drops of neon green food coloring. Stir well until you achieve a bright, “toxic” green color that looks like a witch’s brew.
Spoon or pipe a generous dollop of green frosting onto the top of each cooled brownie. Use the back of a spoon to create small peaks so it looks like it is bubbling over the edge. Press a few candy eyeballs and sprinkles into the frosting. Finally, snap a pretzel stick in half and stick one piece into the side of the frosting to act as the cauldron’s stirring spoon.
