Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 12 large marshmallows
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips or vanilla melting wafers
  • Black decorating gel or edible ink marker

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preparation and Preheating: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8×8 inch square baking pan or line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. Step 2: Mixing the Brownie Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar. Add the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, whisking until the mixture is smooth and shiny. Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet until just combined.
  3. Step 3: Baking the Base: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it into an even layer. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with a few moist crumbs. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  4. Step 4: Attaching the Marshmallows: While the brownies are still warm but not hot, cut them into 12 equal squares. Place one large marshmallow upright in the center of each square. The residual heat will help the marshmallow stick to the brownie without melting it completely.
  5. Step 5: Melting the Ghost Coating: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until completely smooth. If the chocolate is too thick, you can add a tiny drop of vegetable oil to help it flow.
  6. Step 6: Creating the Ghost Look: Spoon the melted white chocolate over the top of each marshmallow, allowing it to drip down the sides to look like a draped sheet. Once the chocolate has set and hardened, use the black decorating gel to draw two small eyes and a mouth on each marshmallow ghost.
