Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced into small chunks
  • 1/2 cup high-quality salted caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal later.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt to ensure even distribution of the leavening agent and spices.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Use a spatula to fold the mixture together until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the brownies tough.
  5. Gently fold the diced apples into the batter until they are evenly distributed. The batter will be thick, which is normal for this style of brownie.
  6. Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking pan. Drizzle about 1/4 cup of the salted caramel sauce over the batter. Top with the remaining batter and smooth the surface. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  7. Remove the pan from the oven and immediately drizzle the remaining salted caramel sauce over the top. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
