1/2 cup crushed candy canes (about 4–5 standard canes)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Pan. Line an 8×8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides. This will allow you to easily lift the fudge out once it has set. Lightly grease the parchment with a tiny bit of butter or non-stick spray if desired.
Step 2: Melt the Chocolate Base. In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and cubed butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each session, until the mixture is completely smooth and melted. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate, as it can seize.
Step 3: Add the Flavoring. Once the chocolate mixture is smooth, stir in the vanilla extract, peppermint extract, and the salt. Mix thoroughly until the extracts are fully incorporated and the fudge looks glossy.
Step 4: Transfer and Smooth. Pour the chocolate mixture into your prepared baking pan. Use a spatula to spread it evenly into the corners and smooth the top. Work quickly, as the fudge will begin to set as it cools.
Step 5: Garnish with Candy Canes. Immediately sprinkle the crushed candy canes over the top of the fudge. Lightly press them into the surface with your hands or the back of a spoon so they stick well to the chocolate.
Step 6: Chill and Set. Place the pan in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until the fudge is completely firm. Once set, lift the fudge out using the parchment paper handles. Use a sharp knife to cut it into 24 even squares. For the cleanest cuts, wipe the knife with a warm cloth between each slice.
