Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 package candy eyeballs (various sizes)
  • Optional: Green or purple food coloring mixed into white frosting for a colorful base

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preparation
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. Step 2: Mixing the Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar. Add the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, whisking until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Step 3: Adding Dry Ingredients
Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  4. Step 4: Baking
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs.
  5. Step 5: Decorating with Monster Eyes
While the brownies are still warm (but not hot), gently press the candy eyeballs into the top of the brownies. Use various sizes and group them in clusters of two, three, or even five to create different monster “faces.”
  6. Step 6: Cooling and Slicing
Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, lift them out using the parchment paper and cut them into 16 squares. Your monsters are ready to serve!
