Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts, toasted
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for the sauce)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • Vanilla bean ice cream, for serving
  • Whipped cream and extra walnuts for garnish

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat and Prepare Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch square baking pan or line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal of the blondies.
  2. Step 2: Mix Wet Ingredients In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating until the mixture is well combined and slightly glossy.
  3. Step 3: Combine Dry Ingredients Gently fold in the flour and salt using a spatula. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the blondies tough. Once the flour is mostly incorporated, stir in 1/2 cup of the toasted walnuts.
  4. Step 4: Bake the Blondies Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Allow them to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Prepare the Maple Sauce In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the maple syrup and 2 tablespoons of butter. Bring to a light simmer for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and whisk in the heavy cream until smooth and thickened. Set aside to cool slightly.
  6. Step 6: Assemble the Sundaes Cut the warm blondies into squares. Place one square in a bowl, top with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, and drizzle with the warm maple sauce. Garnish with whipped cream and the remaining walnuts.
