Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon maple extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
  • Optional Glaze: 1/2 cup powdered sugar mixed with 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a slight overhang on the sides to make it easy to lift the blondies out later. Lightly grease the parchment with cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, light brown sugar, and maple syrup until the mixture is smooth and well combined. Add the egg, maple extract, and vanilla extract, whisking vigorously until the batter looks glossy.
  3. Gently fold in the all-purpose flour and salt using a spatula. Be careful not to overmix; stop as soon as you no longer see streaks of flour. This ensures your blondies stay chewy rather than becoming tough.
  4. Fold in the toasted chopped pecans. The toasted flavor of the nuts is essential for balancing the sweetness of the maple. Spread the thick batter evenly into your prepared baking pan using an offset spatula.
  5. Bake for 22 to 27 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached. Do not overbake, as they will firm up as they cool.
  6. Allow the blondies to cool completely in the pan. Once cool, whisk together the powdered sugar and maple syrup for the glaze and drizzle it over the top. Lift the blondies out of the pan and slice into 16 squares.
