Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1.5 ounces whiskey (bourbon, rye, or Irish whiskey)
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons honey, to taste
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons lemon juice, to taste
  • 1 cinnamon stick (for garnish)
  • 1 lemon slice (for garnish)
  • Optional: 2 whole cloves

Instructions

  1. Bring about 1 cup of water to a boil using a kettle or a small saucepan. You only need 3/4 of a cup for the drink, but having a little extra ensures you can pre-warm your mug if desired.
  2. While the water is heating, pour the whiskey, honey, and lemon juice into a heat-safe mug. If you like a spicier flavor, you can press two cloves into your lemon slice at this stage.
  3. Pour the hot water into the mug over the whiskey mixture. Use a spoon or a cinnamon stick to stir the drink thoroughly until the honey is completely dissolved into the liquid.
  4. Add a fresh cinnamon stick and your lemon slice to the mug. Let it sit for about a minute to allow the flavors to meld together and reach a comfortable drinking temperature.
