Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (plus extra for rolling)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 36 milk chocolate kisses, unwrapped

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preparation and Preheating Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats to prevent sticking and ensure even browning.
  2. Step 2: Creaming the Base In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. This usually takes about 2 minutes with an electric mixer.
  3. Step 3: Adding Wet Ingredients Add the peanut butter, egg, and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture. Continue to beat until everything is well combined and smooth.
  4. Step 4: Mixing Dry Ingredients In a separate small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add these dry ingredients to the peanut butter mixture, mixing on low speed until a soft dough forms.
  5. Step 5: Rolling and Coating Shape the dough into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball in a small bowl of granulated sugar until it is evenly coated. Place the balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  6. Step 6: Baking the Cookies Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are just lightly golden brown. Do not overbake, as the cookies will firm up as they cool.
  7. Step 7: Adding the Chocolate Blossom Immediately after removing the cookies from the oven, press one chocolate kiss firmly into the center of each cookie. The cookie will crack slightly around the edges, which is the signature look for this treat. Let them cool on the pan for 5 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely.
