Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup high-quality salted caramel sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for dough)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon-sugar mix (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray to prevent the caramel from sticking to the sides.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, and the vanilla extract. Ensure every apple slice is evenly coated with the spice mixture.
  3. Spread the seasoned apples into the prepared baking dish. Drizzle the salted caramel sauce evenly over the top of the apples. This will create a delicious, gooey sauce as the fruit releases its juices during baking.
  4. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 cup of sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture until a soft dough forms.
  5. Take small spoonfuls or flattened discs of the snickerdoodle dough and place them over the apple mixture. It does not need to cover the apples completely, as the dough will spread while baking. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mix over the top of the dough.
  6. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes. The cobbler is done when the topping is golden brown and set, and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.
