Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup high-quality caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×9 inch baking dish or a similar sized casserole dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray to ensure nothing sticks to the edges.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with the granulated sugar and cinnamon until every slice is evenly coated. Spread the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish in an even layer.
  3. Take your caramel sauce and drizzle it generously over the top of the spiced apples. Try to distribute it evenly so that every serving gets a bit of that gooey caramel goodness.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the cold, cubed butter into the mixture. Keep mixing until the texture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized bits of butter remaining.
  5. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples and caramel. Place the dish in the center of the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes. The dessert is done when the topping is golden brown and the apple juices are bubbling around the edges.
  6. Remove the dish from the oven and let it sit for at least 10 to 15 minutes before serving. This allows the caramel and fruit juices to thicken slightly, making it easier to scoop.
