Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.3 oz) Oreo cookies (regular or double stuf)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 12 oz black candy melts (or dark chocolate melting wafers)
  • 48 yellow or green candy eyeballs
  • 24 pink heart-shaped sprinkles (for the noses)
  • 48 small triangular pieces of chocolate or broken Oreo wafers (for the ears)
  • White jimmies or edible ink pen (for the whiskers)

Instructions

  1. Place the entire package of Oreo cookies into a food processor. Pulse until the cookies have turned into fine crumbs. If you do not have a food processor, place the cookies in a large plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin until no large chunks remain.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the Oreo crumbs and the softened cream cheese. Use a hand mixer or a sturdy spoon to blend them together until a thick, uniform dough forms. Ensure there are no white streaks of cream cheese left in the mixture.
  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop about one tablespoon of the mixture and roll it between your palms to form a smooth ball, roughly one inch in diameter. Place the ball on the baking sheet and repeat until all the dough is used.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about 30 to 60 minutes. Chilling the truffles is a crucial step; it ensures they stay together and do not melt or lose their shape when dipped into the warm candy coating.
  5. Place the black candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the candy is completely smooth. Be careful not to overheat it, as the candy can become clumpy.
  6. Using a fork or a dipping tool, submerge each chilled truffle into the melted black candy. Lift it out and tap off the excess. Place it back on the parchment paper. While the coating is still wet, quickly press two candy eyes onto the front, a pink heart sprinkle for the nose, and two chocolate triangles on top for the ears. Add whiskers using white sprinkles if desired. Repeat for all truffles.
  7. Allow the decorated truffles to sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes, or place them in the refrigerator for 5 minutes until the black coating has fully hardened.
