- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup brownie mix
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Cream together the softened butter, sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
- Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add this dry mixture to the creamed mixture and mix until just combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts, if using, until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Spread half of the cookie batter in the bottom of the prepared baking pan, smoothing it into an even layer.
- Prepare the brownie mix according to package instructions and pour it evenly over the cookie layer in the baking pan.
- Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cookie batter on top of the brownie layer, trying to cover it as much as possible.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the bars cool in the pan before cutting them into squares for serving.
