Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (12.4 oz each) refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing
  • 1 can (21 oz) apple pie filling
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray or a little bit of butter to ensure nothing sticks.
  2. Open both cans of cinnamon rolls and set the icing containers aside for later. Use a knife or kitchen shears to cut each individual cinnamon roll into 4 or 6 bite-sized pieces.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cut cinnamon roll pieces, the apple pie filling, melted butter, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. If you are using nuts, fold them in now. Toss everything gently until the dough pieces are well-coated in the apple mixture.
  4. Pour the mixture into your prepared baking dish. Spread it out evenly so that the cinnamon roll pieces are not all piled in one spot. This helps everything bake at the same rate.
  5. Place the dish in the center rack of the oven. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. You will know it is done when the dough is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.
  6. Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Warm up the reserved icing in the microwave for 10 seconds to make it pourable, then drizzle it generously over the top of the warm bake. Serve while still warm.
