Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 lbs)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese or Panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch

Instructions

  1. Start by patting the chicken breasts completely dry with paper towels. This is a crucial step; moisture on the surface will steam the meat instead of crisping it. Once dry, if the breasts are very thick, you can gently pound them to an even thickness or slice them in half lengthwise to ensure even cooking.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Rub the olive oil all over the chicken breasts, then coat them generously with the spice mixture. If you are using parmesan or breadcrumbs, press them into the meat now so they stick to the oil.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3 to 5 minutes. Even if your model doesn’t require preheating, doing so helps the chicken start searing the moment it hits the basket, which locks in those juices.
  4. Place the seasoned chicken breasts in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they do not overlap. Cook at 375°F for 10 to 15 minutes. At the halfway mark (around 7 minutes), flip the chicken over to ensure both sides get that golden-brown finish.
  5. Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer. The chicken is done when it reaches 165°F (74°C). Once finished, remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest on a cutting board for 5 minutes before slicing. Resting allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
