Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 8–10 oz each)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap or in a large zip-top bag. Use a meat mallet or a heavy rolling pin to pound the thicker parts of the breast until the entire piece is an even thickness, roughly 3/4 inch thick. This step is crucial for even cooking and ensures the chicken stays juicy throughout.
  2. Pat the chicken breasts completely dry with paper towels. Rub both sides of the chicken with olive oil. In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Sprinkle the seasoning mix generously over both sides of the chicken, pressing it gently with your fingers so it adheres well.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3 to 5 minutes. While not every air fryer requires preheating, doing so helps the chicken start searing as soon as it hits the basket, which is the secret to a crispy exterior.
  4. Place the seasoned chicken breasts in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Make sure they are not overlapping to allow the air to circulate freely. Cook for 12 to 15 minutes, flipping the chicken over halfway through the cooking process. The chicken is done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  5. Remove the chicken from the air fryer and transfer it to a clean cutting board or plate. Let it rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing. This resting period allows the juices to settle and redistribute, ensuring the meat doesn’t dry out when you cut into it.
