6 large jalapeo peppers, halved lengthwise and seeded
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1 pinch of salt
1 tube (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
24 candy eyes (or sliced olives)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Jalapeos – Wash the jalapeos and slice them in half lengthwise. Use a small spoon to scrape out all the seeds and the white membranes. This is where the heat lives, so removing them completely makes the poppers milder. If you like extra spice, you can leave a few seeds behind.
Step 2: Mix the Cheese Filling – In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir everything together until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
Step 3: Stuff the Peppers – Use a spoon or a small spatula to fill each jalapeo half with the cheese mixture. Do not overfill them too much, or the cheese will bubble out during the cooking process. Level the cheese off so it is flush with the edges of the pepper.
Step 4: Wrap the Mummies – Unroll the crescent roll dough and press the seams together to form a solid sheet. Use a pizza cutter or a knife to cut the dough into thin strips, about 1/4 inch wide. Wrap a few strips around each stuffed pepper to look like mummy bandages, leaving a small gap near the top for the “eyes” to peek through.
Step 5: Air Fry to Golden Perfection – Preheat your air fryer to 325F (165C). Place the wrapped mummies in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they aren’t touching. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the peppers are tender.
Step 6: Add the Eyes – Remove the poppers from the air fryer and let them cool for 2 to 3 minutes. While the cheese is still slightly warm and tacky, press two candy eyes into the open space you left on each mummy. Serve immediately while warm.
