2 large firm apples (such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
Oil spray (neutral flavored like avocado or coconut oil)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Apples. Wash the apples thoroughly and pat them dry. Using a mandoline slicer or a very sharp knife, slice the apples into thin rounds about 1/8 inch thick. Remove any seeds from the slices, but feel free to leave the core for a pretty star pattern in the center.
Step 2: Season the Slices. In a small bowl, whisk together the ground cinnamon and granulated sugar. Place your apple slices in a large mixing bowl, lightly spray them with oil, and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over them. Toss gently to ensure every slice is evenly coated.
Step 3: Arrange in the Air Fryer. Preheat your air fryer to 300°F (150°C). Place the apple slices in the air fryer basket in a single layer. It is okay if they overlap slightly as they will shrink while cooking, but do not stack them too high or they won’t get crispy.
Step 4: Air Fry to Perfection. Cook the apples for 15 to 20 minutes. Every 5 minutes, open the basket and shake it or flip the slices with tongs to ensure even browning. Keep a close eye on them during the last few minutes as they can go from golden to burnt very quickly.
Step 5: Cool and Crisp. Once the apples are lightly browned and starting to feel firm, remove them from the air fryer. Place them on a wire cooling rack. This is a crucial step! The chips will continue to crisp up significantly as they cool to room temperature.
