Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated white sugar together. Use a hand mixer or a sturdy spatula to blend until the mixture is light and fluffy. This process incorporates air, which helps the cookies rise.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Beat again until everything is fully combined and smooth. Be careful not to overmix at this stage; you just want the egg to be well incorporated.
  3. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add these dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring gently until a soft dough forms and no white streaks of flour remain.
  4. Gently fold in the chocolate chips using a spatula. Ensure they are evenly distributed throughout the dough so that every bite has plenty of chocolate. If you have time, chilling the dough for 10 minutes can help prevent spreading.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C). Line the bottom of the air fryer basket with a piece of parchment paper cut to fit, or use a specialized air fryer liner. Make sure the paper does not cover all the holes so air can still circulate.
  6. Scoop about 1.5 to 2 tablespoons of dough for each cookie and roll them into balls. Place them in the air fryer basket, leaving at least 2 inches of space between them. Cook for 7 to 9 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers still look slightly soft.
  7. Carefully remove the basket from the air fryer. Let the cookies sit inside the basket for 2 to 3 minutes to firm up. Move them to a wire rack to cool completely, or enjoy them while they are still warm and gooey.
