Description

A soft and hearty whole wheat bread that’s delicious and packed with nutrition, perfect for sandwiches or toasting.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water and honey. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Punch the risen dough down, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  7. Let the bread cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Store the bread wrapped tightly in plastic wrap at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
