Description

A delightful and visually appealing cake perfect for celebrating love on Valentine’s Day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • Decorations (red sprinkles, edible glitter, or fresh berries)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well blended.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs lightly, then add the whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing thoroughly, and then slowly stir in the boiling water.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
  6. For the frosting, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing until smooth.
  7. Once the cakes are cooled, place one layer on a platter, frost the top, add the second layer, and frost the top and sides.
  8. Decorate with heart-shaped sprinkles or berries for a romantic touch.

Notes

Serve at room temperature with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an enhanced experience. To store, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
