Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon mixed herbs (basil, oregano, thyme)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and knead until smooth.
  3. Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread minced garlic, mixed herbs, and cheese evenly.
  6. Roll the dough tightly and slice into swirls.
  7. Place swirls on a greased baking sheet with enough space to rise.
  8. Brush with egg wash and let rise for 30 minutes.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Cool slightly before serving.
