- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 pears, thinly sliced
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for batter)
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter with 1/2 cup of brown sugar over medium heat until bubbly, then pour into the cake pan and arrange the pear slices on top.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In another bowl, cream together 1/2 cup of unsalted butter and 2/3 cup of granulated sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well.
- Gradually alternate adding dry mix and milk to the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Spoon the batter over the pears and bake at 350°F for 35-40 minutes.
- Cool for 10 minutes then invert onto a serving plate.
Notes
Serve warm or at room temperature. Can be enhanced with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
