Description
Delightful sourdough doughnuts that combine the tangy flavor of sourdough with the sweetness of classic donuts, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup sourdough starter (active and bubbly)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, sugar, milk, and eggs. Beat until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, nutmeg, and baking soda. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until a cohesive dough forms.
- Add the melted butter to the dough and knead on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 2-3 hours or until it doubles in size.
- Once risen, turn the dough onto a floured surface, roll out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut out doughnut shapes.
- Heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes on each side.
- Remove and drain excess oil on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar while warm if desired.
- Enjoy warm, plain or with beverages like coffee or tea!
