Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

  2. In a small bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside. Cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients, folding in any nuts or chocolate chips.
  5. Divide the dough into two logs, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Slice logs into 1/4-inch thick rounds and arrange on ungreased baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until edges are golden.
  8. Cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to one week, or freeze unbaked logs for up to three months.
