- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda

- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For the frosting:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the water and cocoa powder until completely combined.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
- Stir the flour mixture into the skillet mixture. Then, add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter back into the skillet and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- For the frosting, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in cocoa powder, milk, and powdered sugar, mixing until smooth.
- Pour the frosting over the warm cake and allow it to set before serving.

Serve warm or at room temperature, and consider adding nuts or sprinkles for extra flavor.
