  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • Pasta of choice (e.g., spaghetti, fettuccine)
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients. Finely chop onion, dice carrot and celery, and mince garlic.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, and celery; sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Add minced garlic and ground beef; cook until beef is browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and red wine. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes to an hour.
  5. In the last 10 minutes, stir in whole milk for a creamier texture. Meanwhile, cook pasta according to package instructions.
  6. Serve Bolognese sauce over cooked pasta, garnished with basil and Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

For added flavor, allow Bolognese sauce to sit overnight in the fridge before serving. This dish can be made with various ground meats, and you can customize it with additional vegetables or spices as desired.
