- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Mix to ensure even distribution of the salt throughout the flour.
- Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms, and then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until smooth.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Transfer it to a greased loaf pan and let it rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool before slicing.
Notes
Wrap cooled bread in plastic wrap or aluminum foil to maintain freshness. For longer storage, freeze sliced bread in a freezer bag.
