Description

A soft, versatile bread perfect for sandwiches, toast, or enjoying fresh out of the oven.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Mix to ensure even distribution of the salt throughout the flour.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms, and then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until smooth.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Transfer it to a greased loaf pan and let it rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

Wrap cooled bread in plastic wrap or aluminum foil to maintain freshness. For longer storage, freeze sliced bread in a freezer bag.
