- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until a sticky dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) during the last 15 minutes of rising.
- Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Cover and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
- Score the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and hollow when tapped.
- Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Store at room temperature wrapped in a kitchen towel for 2-3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
