Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 1 tablespoon milk (optional, for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined. Avoid over-mixing.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set.
- For the frosting, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add milk if a thinner consistency is desired.
- Once the cookies are cool, frost them generously with the cream cheese frosting.
