Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined. Avoid over-mixing.
  5. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set.
  6. For the frosting, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add milk if a thinner consistency is desired.
  7. Once the cookies are cool, frost them generously with the cream cheese frosting.
