Description

A simple and quick recipe for crusty French bread that can be made in just over an hour.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Stir them together.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour and stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm area for 30 minutes, covered with a damp cloth.
  6. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  7. Shape the dough into a baguette and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Score the top with a sharp knife and let it rest for another 10 minutes.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  10. Cool the bread before slicing.

Notes

Enjoy warm, with butter or spreads. Can be stored wrapped for up to two days or frozen for longer storage.
