Description

Tender and flavorful rolls made with oats and molasses, perfect for any meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 packet dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the rolled oats and boiling water. Allow to sit for 30 minutes.
  2. Stir in molasses, sugar, salt, and butter until melted and combined.
  3. Dissolve dry yeast in warm water and allow to activate for 5 minutes.
  4. Add yeast mixture to oat mixture and stir to combine. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  7. Punch down the dough to release air bubbles and shape into rolls.
  8. Place shaped rolls in a greased baking pan, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

Best served warm with butter or honey. To store, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
