Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup corn syrup
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the flour and cocoa powder.
  3. Press the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking pan. Bake for about 20 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. In a saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, and corn syrup. Cook over medium heat until thickened (about 10 minutes). Pour over the cooled shortbread base.
  5. Allow the caramel to cool for about 15 minutes. Melt chocolate chips with vanilla in the microwave or double boiler, then pour over caramel layer.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator until set, about 1-2 hours. Once set, cut into squares and serve.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor.
