Description

A classic Italian marinara sauce made with tomatoes and fragrant herbs, perfect for pasta, pizza, or as a dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Fresh basil leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, sugar, salt, black pepper, oregano, and basil.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Adjust seasoning if needed, then serve over pasta or use as a pizza sauce, garnished with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes while mixing the tomatoes. Use fresh herbs for a brighter flavor.
