Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat for about 1 minute until shimmering.
  2. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent and tender.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper, then let it simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Once thickened, serve over cooked spaghetti and garnish with fresh basil, if desired.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a splash of red wine while simmering or blend the sauce for a smoother consistency using an immersion blender.
