Description
A delightful flatbread infused with garlic, perfect for pairing with curries or enjoyed on its own.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (approx. 8.8 oz)
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup warm water (120 ml)
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt (approx. 2.1 oz)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt until well combined.
- Add the warm water, yogurt, and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a shaggy dough begins to form.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 10 minutes at room temperature.
- While the dough rests, combine the melted butter and minced garlic in a small bowl and set aside.
- After resting, divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into an oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.
- Heat a skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat until hot. Place one naan in the skillet and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until bubbles appear. Flip and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until golden.
- Immediately brush the hot naan with the garlic butter mixture and sprinkle with chopped cilantro if desired. Repeat with the remaining dough portions.
Notes
Naan can be stored at room temperature for up to two days or frozen for up to 2 months. Reheat in a skillet or oven.
