Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces, shaping each into a bagel.
- Let the shaped bagels rest for about 10 minutes.
- Boil a large pot of water with malt syrup or honey. Boil bagels for 1-2 minutes on each side.
- Remove bagels, sprinkle with toppings if desired, and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
