A delightful and healthier twist on traditional chocolate cake that combines rich chocolate flavors with zesty orange.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: dark chocolate chips for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the melted coconut oil, honey (or maple syrup), orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. <liGradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Optional: sprinkle with dark chocolate chips before serving.

Notes

For an extra orange flavor, add more orange zest. Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing.
